Tips for viewing video on this site and Flash video on other websites.

To view video on this site, as well as Flash video on many other sites, you will need Flash Player 7 or later. Because Flash is used for many other applications online other than video, it is installed on about 94% of browsers, so chances are you already have a version of it on your system.

To install or upgrade your flash version, go to:
a. http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflash
b. click on "downloads" in the right column
c. follow instructions to install Flash player. You will need to restart your browser.
(Note: a dial up connection may not show the video at all even with the Flash plug-in)

The quality of your viewing experience

Your viewing experience at this site and others depends on many factors:

1. Your connection speed: A broadband Internet connection such as DSL, cable, satellite, T1 or Wi-Fi will provide the best quality, but even those may slow temporarily. Dial-up connections will be the most problematic and may not show streaming video at all.

2. Your computer's set up: A minimum 600 megahertz (MHz) processor or faster with at least 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM is recommended. Less RAM or slower processor speed can contribute to choppy playback.

3. A high volume of traffic on the network (your local provider/network or the Web itself) may also slow your connection.

4. The size of the movie playing back. Larger viewing windows require a more powerful processor and more RAM to play smoothly.

5. Quick troubleshooting ideas include emptying your browser's cache, opening a new page, or restarting your browser all together if you are experiencing repeated "stream not found" messages.

Additional Information and FAQ's:

1. Which media players can I use? Do I have to choose between Quicktime, Windows Media or Real Player?

Hooray! With Flash streaming video life is (relatively) simple. All you need to watch video on our site is Macromedia's free Flash Player 7 or above. Real Media, Windows Media and Quicktime do not work with content on this site.

3. How do I install Flash Player for the first time?

If your browser doesn't automatically detect and prompt you to download the plug-in, try this:
a. go to http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflash
b. click on "downloads" in the right column
c. follow instructions to install Flash player. You may need to restart your browser.

4. Why am I seeing the video but not hearing any audio?

The audio is embedded in the video, so you should get both together: Do you have a sound card and speakers? Are your speakers turned on, and up? (You can check this manually, or try listening to another sound file.)

5. Why does the video appear to have "frozen" or stops and starts?

6. Why is the video quality sometimes poor?

Problems with video quality are usually related to connection speed. A broadband Internet connection such as DSL, cable, satellite, T1 or Wi-Fi will provide the best quality, but even those may slow temporarily. We do not recommend watching any video if you are on a dial-up connection.

Your computer's processor speed will also affect the video quality. A minimum 600 megahertz (MHz) processor or faster with at least 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM is recommended. Less RAM or slower processor speed can contribute to choppy playback.

10. Why am I unable to watch videos?

11. Why is the video player window cut off by my monitor?

If you have your browser set to a resolution of less than 800x600, the entire video player window may not appear on your screen. We recommend changing your settings to 1024x768.

12. Why do some videos display at different sizes than others?

Videos created for this player may have been shot or compressed at different sizes, so you may experience a range of sizes as you view videos in this player.

13. Can I download a copy of the video to my hard drive for viewing later?

No, you cannot download streaming video. It streams through your browser via a RAM cache and does not stay on your hard drive. For information on obtaining copies of video on this site or other Walkie Talkie work on other sites, please contact Kala Philo.
