Selected project: Green Doors Tex. S. Taxpayer video series - first short released May 27, 2009.
Walkie
Talkie collaborated with Green Doors' Executive Director Frank
Fernandez and staff to develop a "series" of short videos highlighting
the fiscal, moral and human capital opportunity cost of homelessness.
Walkie
Talkie provided thematic concept development, production project
management, and technical and marketing consultation for web video
implementation and social media.
The first short, released the week of Memorial Day, invites the
viewer to "walk a mile" in the boots of a homeless veteran, contrasting
an ordinary civilian Sunday morning with the reality of a Sunday
morning for an active duty soldier - demonstrating that the experiences
of active duty may contribute to the risk of homelessness for veterans,
risks that could be ameliorated by better delivery of post-active duty
services and supportive housing.
The shorts were shot and edited by the talented filmmakers at The Bear Media. Filmmaker and Iraq War soldier Steve Metze generously contributed a clip of footage shot while on active duty in Iraq for his documentary Year at Danger. Ray Benson from Austin's Grammy winning band Asleep at the Wheel generously contributed voice talent.
